Today we played a few games to begin with: ´I Have Never´ (which uses the present perfect and is quite fun) and Two Truths and a Lie. Then we did a ocean/sea life quiz. The students then researched and made up their own quiz questions. After the break we watched a tiny bit of The Blue Planet and each group was given a creature from the deep to research and make a short presentation for the rest of the glass. We finished with having a look at those animals in action in blue planet, just for the last 5 minutes of the class.
Today we spent the whole morning a long role playing game called ´Game of Exploration´. The class brainstormed ideas about the Explorers of the New World had some reading to do first on the conditions of the sailors on ships to America in the time of Columbus, how they lived and the illnesses they got.
Then the groups were given 500 gold coins and then need to buy the food and supplies that they needed. So the groups decided on what to bring for the journey and when they arrive in the new world.
Then the role playing began! the two groups made it (just!) to the new world and created settlements and fought with the natives!
We went to the Aquarium today!
Today the class became a team of Marine Biologists. They were split into groups to design an expedition to the Marian Trench, the deepest part of the ocean. 2 groups designed a deep sea creature that the expedition would attempt to find and film. 2 students designed the submarine, 2 the camera and 2 were the head biologists. Tomorrow we have present our expedition in the hope that we will get the money we need to do it!
At the end of the class we played a few games of Stop the Bus…
Presentation day! The kids were really prepared and ready for the presentation. Their ideas and speeches for the expedition were excellent. I think they would all make excellent Marine Biologists!
Here are two pictures of the presentation in full swing.
And that was the last week!!
